Robert Calderon – Peter had an immeasurable impact on my development as a scientist, and I am delighted to have the chance to thank him for his guidance and support. Peter’s patience and ability to explain complex concepts as an instructor in one of my first courses as a grad student is what convinced me to muster the courage to ask him if I could rotate in his lab. Getting to know Peter over the years made me realize that this was just the tip of the iceberg; his attention to detail is unparalleled and his enthusiasm for getting to the root of a scientific question is contagious. Peter taught me how to think about science, how to design the right experiment to test a hypothesis and how to interpret and explain the results in a way that, first and foremost, stays true to the data. I couldn’t be happier to have had the opportunity to work with Peter. Whenever I arrive at a scientific roadblock, I’ve found that the best way forward is to ask myself “what would Peter do here?”.

Katayoon (Katie) Dehesh – Peter Quail’s mentorship was instrumental in shaping my path as a scientist. He not only encouraged me to think critically and question assumptions but also provided me with hands-on opportunities to master cutting-edge techniques. His guidance was both challenging and supportive, pushing me to explore new ideas while ensuring I had the tools and knowledge to succeed. Through his mentorship, I learned how to design and execute experiments with precision, interpret data with a critical eye, and communicate my findings effectively. Most importantly, he empowered me to take ownership of my research, fostering my growth into an independent and confident scientist. His influence has been a cornerstone of my scientific career, instilling in me a deep sense of curiosity, resilience, and dedication that continues to drive my work today.
